Research by and for Sex Workers: An Update

Research by and for Sex Workers: An Update

. 2 min read

In May, we wrote about the market research project Tryst.link was undertaking. We're excited to bring you an update as we move from the interviewing stage into a survey we'll be sending out next week.

Thank you to our interviewees!

Our three interviewers spoke to about twenty sex workers across the United States with different work styles, locations, demographics, and target clients. Stevie, Song, and Dani really enjoyed meeting you all! They recalled so many moments filled with insight, wit, compassion, creativity, and connection.  If you're reading this as a participant, we want you to know how grateful we are for your generosity and honesty. You all had unique, thoughtful ways of talking about your work, how you used ad platforms, and how you were responding to changes in the industry and the world. From your insights, we were able to identify themes and differences, and use them to build questions for the next half of the project.

Another chance to participate

We've created a survey and we'll be randomly selecting a few hundred US-based providers on Tryst.link to take part in this next step. If you're selected, you'll get a message through your Tryst.link account between August 24 and August 31 with a link to the survey. Participation is completely optional.

If you choose to take part, the survey will take about twenty minutes to complete. It has around sixty-five questions, divided into sections about these subjects:

  • Roughly who and where you are.
  • Your general approach to sex work.
  • Your approach to finding clients.
  • How you use online ad sites.
  • How you make business decisions.
  • What's important to you about the ad sites you use.

The survey link will close on Thursday, September 3, at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time. If you were invited to participate and finish the full survey in that time, 150 TLC will be added to your Tryst.link account by the end of September as thanks for your time and insights.

What this research will do

We're confident that this survey will provide an overview of the priorities, needs, and work styles of providers who use Tryst.link in the US.

As a company with a commitment to putting sex workers first, we want to keep making sure that our limited time and energy are spent in the ways that are best for you. We also want to respond to our changing world in ways that preserve what you care most about. With data to back up our decisions, we'll be able to do those things.

This information will not be collected at the expense of your privacy: as with our interviews, your data will be anonymised. If you provide any names or identifying details, we'll redact them. No information will be stored in the United States.

Thank you again to all our wonderful interviewees, and thank you in advance to those of you who will receive the survey in the coming week. We can't wait to share some insights from this work with you in the coming months.

As always, if you have any questions, you're welcome to hit me up at community@tryst.link. I may not answer every email, but I read them all.
