“PIMPS IS AN UGLY WORD. WE COULD CALL OURSELVES LOVE BROKERS”
This 💋Sex Worker Saturday💋reviews NIGHT SHIFT.
I gotta say this film has an all star cast and was instantly one of my favorites when it comes to this sex workers in film series. Starting out with an amazing title track by Burt Bacharach and an amazing cast and production team like Brian Glazer as producer; how could this movie fail? Especially with RON HOWARD as the director?
Henry Winkler stars as Chuck, a people pleasing, empathetic, full time morgue attendant who is engaged and ready to be promoted. After the ‘pimp’ of SWer Belinda Keaton has been murdered and identified by Belinda, she meets Chuck. She swears she recognizes him. One night when Chuck is navigating an intimate night with his neurotic fiancé, Charlotte Koogle ( Gina Hecht), they’re disturbed by Belinda - who happens to be Chuck's next door neighbor. And she’s hosting a client in her apartment with loud music.
Chuck’s new coworker Bill (Michael Keaton), fancies himself an “ideas man” who thinks he can capitalize on the tuna fish sandwich by feeding mayo to tuna fish. He decides it’s time to shake things up in Chuck's life.
After Chuck encounters a beaten up Belinda in their apartment complex elevator, she confides in him that she and her girlfriends need ‘pimps’ in order to work. So they can screen their clientele and not be exploited or abused by their previous ‘pimps’. Chuck casually tells Bill of Belinda’s predicament, and after a bit of coaxing, Bill convinces Chuck to run their own pimp/pro operation out of the morgue. They won’t be hassled late at night since they really just sit around and wait for phone calls anyway.
Will Chuck, Bill and Belinda combine forces and rule the city with their new business or will the pressures of providing pleasure catch up to them and send ‘em to the slammer?
This film’s cast does a great job making some seriously sticky situations comedic, charming and feeling light hearted. Wouldn’t it be amazing if ‘pimps/procurers’ took the interests of SWers seriously and invested their hard earned money into IRA’s and healthcare benefits? I love that this film explores an optimistic vision of working within the industry with those responsibilities.
Take it Sleazy!💋
I give this film 3 out of 5 dildos.
