Part of advocating for the rights of sex workers is ensuring that sex workers have space to tell their stories. Each week we delve into the worlds of Tryst providers to better understand their lived experiences and explore what non sex working allies can do help. This week, Oklahoma City escort, Simone Sinn, chats to us about the existence of stigma and censorship as well as the importance of hobbies.
Tell us your story, how did you get into the industry and what has your journey looked like thus far?
In May 2015, at the young age of 23, I found myself going through a divorce. My marriage was unfulfilling and toxic.
Newly single, I auditioned at a strip club. I was flat broke and my best friend bought me a pair of Pleasers. That moment kicked off, well...everything. For the first year and a half of my career I danced locally and would dabble in full service work outside of the club. Then I decided I wanted 'more' from the industry. I started visiting other cities, trying to establish myself as a traveling entertainer. I toured Houston, Mississippi, and even lived in Miami for a short while; eventually settling in Dallas, Texas.
Then July 2018 happened. I was in a roll-over car accident. I was blessed to only walk away with a broken rib and a torn deltoid muscle, but that accident still fundamentally changed how I had to approach sex work. Left unable to dance, I began escorting full time to sustain myself.
After six months of survival, I decided to move back to my home state, Oklahoma. This turned out to be the creativity spark I needed to birth my brand.

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?
My hobbies are so important to me, and some days it feels as if I have too many. I often have to remind myself that hobbies make a person well-rounded, and each of them serve a purpose.
I practice yoga. I have been practicing on and off for over 8 years now. The lifestyle that comes with sex work can be so fast paced at times, and yoga helps me slow down to take time for myself. After all, if I don't take care of me, I can't take care of my clients.
I recently began gardening and collecting houseplants. My plant babies have helped me stay healthy and positive throughout quarantine. "Planting" taught me to pay attention instead of just going through the motions. Each plant is different. It is a great reminder that people are all different too. All of us have different needs and desires, and different ways of receiving those things.
I also enjoy homemaking for myself. I LOVE cooking, and I'm even pretty handy with a power drill. Overall I just enjoy creating the perfect space for me to decompress. The experience has been really fulfilling in itself.
What do you geek out on?
Definitely cooking. I love learning different techniques that I can implement into my 'old-school,' minimalist cooking style. I have taken a couple vacations just centered around eating, and trying new restaurants is my favorite thing to do when I tour.

Where do you think the stigma attached to sex work comes from?
Growing up in a culture that is heavily influenced by religion, sex outside of marriage in itself can be seen as shameful or wrong in some way. Although sex work is not gendered-we cannot ignore the fact that sex work is perceived as something women do, not men.
When you combine this internalized shame of sex, with societal driven ideals that women do not have autonomous rights to their bodies or what is done with them, also with the shared male belief that women shouldn't out earn men, you are squeezed into a space where you must fight against multiple civil issues to thrive.

We know sex workers are experiencing censorship online, what have your experiences been with this and has it impacted your work?
The biggest thing that comes to mind is FOSTA/SOSTA. Waking up one day to see all the advertisement platforms I use either seized, or completely removed for safety reasons was harrowing. I had to quickly adapt and learn to freelance, which also meant learning new safety and screening procedures. During those first few months after the seizures started, I heavily relied on freelancing.
I believe using multiple social media platforms and having a personal website can help when SW ad platforms are targeted directly. However, sex workers have to walk a very narrow line on social media because they can shut down our accounts too. It's a quite the " rock and hard place."

How would you describe your dream date?
A stay in suite 1200 at The Roosevelt, Hollywood, CA--which is said to be haunted by Marilyn Monroe. I would love to drink champagne and take bubble baths all weekend in the same space that the sex icon once called her own.
Some of my favorite dates yet have been: a Las Vegas food tour, a casino weekend in Biloxi, Mississippi, and seeing gators in the Everglades.

As sex workers, we face a number of challenges in our line of work. What is one issue you care about and how do you think your clients can help sex workers?
I think we are all affected by unique issues. It's hard for me to target any specific problem. I think it's best for clients to support us by not making assumptions, and learning about the sex workers in their lives. Be a genuine ally, and listen.
There are so many educated, skilled, and passionate sex workers out there. Not one of us has all the answers individually, but collectively we do have the answers on what's best for our community. A great place to start is by reading literature written by sex workers. Further than that, vote and get active politically. Remember that if you can visit us discreetly, you can support us discreetly as well.

My favorite restaurant is: Cheevers Cafe, Oklahoma City
The way to win me over is: My love languages are gifts, and acts of service. I love when a gentleman takes time to review my website and social media pages, and caters the experience to my interests.
If you wanted to buy me a drink, you should buy me a: Moscow Mule, or a bottle of bubbles.
My favorite scent is: On him-Creed Aventus. On me-Burberry Her.
