Thanks for stopping by our sex worker interview series, 'A Tryst With...' We love learning more about the wonderful members of our sex working community. Today we're speaking with Melbourne Escort Katie Gee!

Can you tell us your ‘origin’ story as a sex worker?
I love being asked about my “origin story”, it makes me feel like a supervillain! I first dabble in sex work when I was about 19. I would cam behind my boyfriends backs while they were at work on and off over the years, when I just wanted to feel really desired. My first ever tip was from someone who thought I looked cold and paid me $50 to put a jumper on, it was a total revelation for me. But I pushed sex work out of my mind. I was a serial-monogamist and felt like it wasn’t even a conversation I could have with my partner at the time, so I kept bouncing around hospitality, retail, and office jobs.
Years down the track, I got fired from an office job for chucking too many sickies and got broken up with by my then boyfriend within 24 hours. I immediately started googling “Porn studios in Melbourne”. I found a reddit thread that listed all the local studios and I reached out to the majority of them. I DMed random sex workers on Instagram asking if they were safe to work with. I got a response pretty quickly from all of them, but chose Girls Out West because they shot solos and I didn’t feel confident enough to do G/G or B/G straight out of the gate. I was so nervous when I rocked up to my first shoot, but it just felt so comfortable and natural for me once we got going.
About a year later, I had found and quit yet another dull office job and had no idea where to go from there. I hadn’t even considered full service sex work as an option because it felt so shrouded in mystery, unlike the porn industry. I would ask around on porn sets about what was the safest way to start full-service, what brothel I should start at, and how to even apply for a job at one. I was pointed in the right direction, and called up a few places to book in an interview. I followed the workers at these places on Twitter and thought they were so cool and that I wouldn’t fit in because I wasn’t cool enough.
I think I ghosted at least three interviews before actually going in for one. I did my first shift, went home, and that was that! I was waiting to feel different or weird after each booking, but I didn’t. I just counted my money and felt like I was one of those cool, “shrouded in mystery” sex workers now.
After I felt like I’d outgrown the brothel, moving to being an independent escort was a total no brainer.

Has your work influenced your sexuality or the way you view sexuality?
Believe it or not, I had never had sex with an AFAB person before sex work, so it certainly confirmed that I’m pansexual! It was such an intimidating scenario because it was for a porn shoot, it was heavily scripted, and in front of a decent sized crew. It was a threesome and my scene partners were both ridiculously attractive. Not to mention the name of the scene was ‘Boot Camp’, so it involved working out, which I am not the fondest of. The scene still stands out to me as one of my most favourites. In one of the behind-the-scenes photos I’ve got a massive grin on my face just after making someone squirt.
You're out as a sex worker, what was that process like for you?
Even when I was researching how to get into the industry, I was actively telling my friends about every step I took, so I don’t ever think I was really ‘in’ as a sex worker. I’m a very open person and struggle keeping my mouth shut. I'll tell randoms at the pub that I’m a professional slag after half a pint.
I feel very lucky to work and live openly as a sex worker in Australia. I’m so thankful to my wonderful peers for paving the way and fighting for Decrim so this is even possible.

What is your favorite part of sex work culture? What communities, people, places, and memories are important to you as a sex worker?
My life revolves around sex work and the community I’ve formed because of it. I’ve formed some of my most important relationships on a porn set, during a doubles booking, or at after work drinks. I even experienced love at first sight in an intro room at the brothel with my lovely partner.
I feel so lucky to be part of what still feels like a secret club full of the coolest, kindest people in the world. Every moment I get to spend with fellow whores – having a picnic or hosting a dinner party, while sharing our stories and cracking the dirtiest jokes – are my favourite moments.

You’re a content creator and porn performer! How have sites like OnlyFans changed the way you work?
I am! Personally, I prefer making studio content. I’m an ADHD disorganised queen, so I really go through stages with making content. It has given me more opportunities to engage directly with people from all over the world that think I’m cute, which is always so much fun.
Could you walk us through your process for shooting porn? How is it different from shooting with a production company?
I pretty much always shoot my own content the moment inspiration strikes, which definitely gives it a more authentic and relaxed feel. No scripts, no elaborate storylines, just me having the freedom to be the horny dork I truly am!
I think the biggest difference is the physical toll professional shoots take on your body. You are spending a lot of time in unnatural positions to get “the shot”. Fucking someone while on a wooden table or a picnic rug on concrete, and making sure every part of your body is visible to the camera just isn’t the most comfortable thing in the world. I think I’ve only done about 3 shoots actually on a bed!

How has your porn career contributed to your escorting career?
I think it has given me so much more confidence from the jump, which could have taken a really long time to build otherwise. I’d always been quite sexually active in my personal life, but people paying money to hang out with lil ol’ me seemed a bit preposterous. After doing porn, it was very easy to make the connection that if people wanted to pay to see me fuck, why wouldn’t they also pay for the real thing?
You’re a gamer! What was the game that first turned you into a gaming enthusiast? Why?
I think I was born a gamer! I got a Gameboy Colour when I was young. I also had a cracked Playstation and Nintendo DS with hundreds of games, so I was very lucky to always have a variety of things to play on hand. I loved Pepsiman a lot, which is a Japanese promotional game that has the most banging theme song ever, and Spyro.
I had a big break from gaming as I didn’t have a console or PC as an adult, but ended up buying a switch, gaming laptop, and PC during lockdown, and have spent the majority of my spare time gaming since then. At the moment, my go-tos are Manor Lords, Cities Skylines 2, and Splitgate, but you can occasionally catch me cranking 90’s on Fortnite.

Is there a book, blog, tv show, or movie that you’re into at the moment? Why?
I’m a massive fan of good sex worker representation in media, and “Satisfaction” is my go-to comfort show. It’s a soap from 2007 set in a Melbourne brothel, and it really feels like I’ve met each and every character in real life. Sometimes, it’s a bit too close to real life, so plenty of trigger warnings need to be attached, but it is always incredibly satisfying seeing a heightened version of your own past in a show.

My favorite everyday pleasure is: Waking up cuddling my doggie.
My favourite album is: A Weekend in the City by Bloc Party and Little Dark Age by MGMT.
The way for a client to win me over is: Crack jokes with me during a steamy bang.
One sex tip I think everyone should know is: I’m going to be boring and say, communicate!
