A Tryst With Los Angeles Escort Mimosa

. 5 min read

Oh, hello. Welcome back to A Tryst With, my loves, our worker interview series. This week we catch up with a Los Angeles escort, the brilliant and the bubbly, Mimosa!

Tell us your story, how did you get into the industry and what has your journey looked like thus far?

My first job as a sex worker was for tickle fetish videos, then foot fetish, FBSM and then full service. A lot of trial and error in the beginning because I didn't have any hoe friends. I grew up in a Christian Science household, and that was not even on anyone's radar for any one of us to engage in Sex Work or the adult industry. I started shooting adult content in 2016 with Kink.com and continued my FSSW as well. My journey has been overwhelmingly positive and I attribute that largely to many privileges, one of which being the ability to choose this line of work. I enjoy escorting more every day and I love to connect with people in ways that allow them to explore their desires safely.

How has the industry changed since you started?

It is more hierarchical because of social media pressures and there are less ad options, in the USA, because of the shut down of sites like RedBook, Backpage, and Craigslist etc. However, social media is a game changer and has leveled the playing field in many ways and allowed clients to connect with providers they may never have known otherwise! I love that. Social Media is a hydra of sorts where the power to change the narrative is wielded by commodifying authenticity and intimacy, and that power can offer opportunity or danger no matter how you slice it. Everything is connected and until the systemic discrimination and exploitation of sex workers is dealt with, more and more complications spring up as a result.

What are your favorite parts of sex work culture and community ?

When I have a day where I get reminded of why I love what I do. Those days are so worth it! The exhilaration of connection. Seeing and being seen, purely appreciating someone as they are, that is soooo lovely to me! I also love that sex workers are the pulse of society. We are consistently influencing pop culture, taste, fashion, makeup, lifestyle, politics, TECHNOLOGY…the list goes on.  We are forever inspiring and enacting creativity, expansion, and transformation through the intersection of industry and individual, community and corporation. We are everywhere but always told to be nowhere.

What is it like having such a big following online?

Well I looooove the internet. Good, bad, and ugly. And I really enjoy reading comments regardless of whether they are rude or kind. For the most part, my followers and I are in love! Everyone tends to be very sweet to me and I also love interacting with strangers, which is so funny because I don't necessarily enjoy online sex work, but I adore social media.

We know sex workers have experienced widespread censorship and discrimination both online and offline post SESTA/FOSTA, what have your experiences been with this?

I was involved in protesting SESTA/FOSTA. Going to the capitol and standing before congress telling them how this would hurt us. It was a very sad day seeing it pass. It makes everything more laborious, more difficult to access by an already disenfranchised community. And warning civilians about this discrimination and how once they come for us, they will definitely come for you, did not help to protect our rights in the slightest. It isn't until the rest of the world is "blindsided" by measures to obliterate their privacy that they take notice.

Do you have a favorite piece of sex worker art?

I love any art created for Sex Workers and allies by Sex Workers and allies. I help curate an annual underground film festival in Los Angeles called Failed Films, in it's 6th iteration. Failed Films was founded by Sex Workers and continues to feature subversive, original, radical, inclusive pieces of art in film, photography, performance and more.

Is there a book, blog, tv show or movie that has had a major impact on your life? What was it and what did it teach you?

Yes. The book "How Many Spots Does a Leopard Have" by Julius Lester is a book that is full of African and Jewish folktales and beautifully illustrated. I grew up with it,  and it's still my favorite book. It taught me so much about different cultural values and helped me become the curious, open, and loving person I am today, for sure!

What’s your favorite way to relax and recharge after a long week?

I love singing, dancing, going to a Korean spa or hot springs, or walking with my music blasting. If I'm with friends, I'll be cooking or creating something, or just enjoying some great films and a house party!

Are there any advocacy groups or charitable organisations that you'd like us to give a shout out to?

Yes! BAWS- Bay Area Worker's Support started by Arabelle Raphael and Maxine Holloway is one of my favorites, they often have small grants for SWers as well as other resources, as well as Sacramento Punks With Lunch who do outreach to houseless and displaced folks in the Sacramento Area.

My ideal date would consist of: A day at the beach or spa followed by a delicious dinner. Then some dancing, walking around the city, or a karaoke bar, followed by a cozy and extremely satisfying night together, listening to music and getting lost in each others' bodies and minds…

My ultimate weakness is: Consistency, kindness, and generosity.

My favorite scent is: Terre D'Hermes, Fleur D'Oranger, and when someone has just come from a bath or shower and the steam smells delightful.

My greatest turn on: Certainty. And playfulness.
