Well hello hello hello, and welcome back to A Tryst With, our worker interview series! Today we're talking to the beautiful, the ethereal, Halifax Escort Fiona Dream!

Tell us your story, how did you get into the industry and what has your journey looked like thus far?

I started full service work in 2018 as a way to supplement my student loans and feed my desires to just buy things. I had come out as trans in 2017 and found that it had become shockingly difficult to get hired in any civie job. I think at that time people were still very confused about what a trans person was, and especially what a non-binary person was.
I had actually started camming years before around 2011 as a way to make some extra cash. It turned into a helpful tool to navigate my dysphoria as I found viewers who enjoyed my shows made me feel like my body could at least be enjoyed by someone else. I wasn't aware at the time what dysphoria was or that I could transition.

Since coming out I've found the industry to be extremely validating of my gender (even if there's clients and professionals who still use slurs).

Despite being in the industry for so long I've found it difficult to remain consistent and build my brand. I received an adult diagnosis for ADHD last year which has helped me gain a better understanding of myself and how my brain works. This is helping me to be more consistent in building my brand and business, so where I'm at now is aiming for more stability in my work and income.

How has the industry changed since you started?

I started online work in 2011 which was about 5 years before OF went online so the online world of adult modeling has changed completely, in some ways for the worse. The fan site model has lead to a lot of us working more than full time hours and some people seem to feel obligated to our content and time without paying for it. Not to mention the rampant use of revenge porn, which, in my opinion, includes the theft and publishing of models' paywalled content on the internet.

But there’s a lot of good as well, the fansite format has enabled a lot of models to enter the industry on their own terms and with their own boundaries. There’s a lot of potential for experimentation in the medium now and it’s really for the better.

Since starting full service work in 2018 I’ve seen successful push backs against anti-sex work legislation turn into wins for the puritans and evangelicals with sesta/fosta. Before the pandemic I found there was a more common etiquette in the industry as well. I'm not sure if it’s just a change in demographics or culture but since 2020 that has changed drastically. I have to address boundary pushing and time wasting a lot more than I had to pre-pandemic.

The industry and the world has really changed completely and I am personally working towards safer practices to protect myself and my clients.

How has the nordic model impacted your work and how would decriminalisation change this?

Canada passed PCEPA in 2014 so I entered the industry after this system was already well established. The criminalisation of clients and our money only serves to further marginalize us and the Canadian courts have recently made it clear that they don’t believe that is the greater risk, and that they feel the greater good will be found in keeping people from entering the industry. Well that didn’t work cause here I am.

What many people don’t realize about Canada is that bodily autonomy isn’t guaranteed in our laws. There are whole provinces where defacto abortion bans exist because doctors are allowed to choose to perform them or not (PE) and the resulting social pressure from the maritime puritan culture means doctors chose not to perform them. Some provinces like NS have such a lack of endocrinology support that accessing hormones and surgeries for trans people (a bodily autonomy issue) can take years.

In my work I’ve been lucky to avoid negative consequences so far but the laws do make me more cautious with screening processes. A criminalized client isn’t necessarily going to push and break my boundaries, but there’s less incentive not to. I think decriminalization is important to improve safety for workers like me but especially for undocumented and immigrant workers who are at risk of deportation. Laws like PCEPA put our well being on the line. I also think that shifting culture to acceptance of sex work as a legitimate form of work can help to better protect all peoples rights to bodily autonomy.

Is there a book, blog, tv show or movie that you’re into at the moment?

I’m currently watching House of the Dragon. I'm really enjoying the game of thrones spinoff. I got into the original TV series around season 4 and although the writing is very different I’m loving the writing of Matt Smith’s character.

I’m also always keeping up with the real housewives of Beverly Hills, but I’m tempted to start watching New York because all the girls in Beverly Hills are just too much lately.

What’s an aspect of being a sex worker that you really love?

To be perfectly real, it’s the money and the fact that I’m my own boss. Being in control of my prices, hours, and policies is really truly empowering. But it’s impossible to not love the connections and friendships I’ve made since I’ve started to come out more openly as a sex worker and found confidence in my work.

Were there any folks in the industry you found helpful or interesting to follow on social media when you first started?

Hacking Hustling has been making some great content and doing some amazing advocacy work since 2019.

What’s one myth about Sex Work or Sex Workers you’d like to bust?

I’d like to focus on a myth I find specific to transgender workers, and I think this myth comes out of porn and the moneyshot (which grooby has been a leader in dispelling). The problem that emerges is this idea, in clients minds, that trans women all offer a similar or the same experience, and that experience includes cum.

The reality is that not all trans women use hormone therapy, but those of us that do have varying capacities to produce semen. Some of us produce just as much as we always did, others (such as me) produce very little to almost none. I’ve been working on some methods to help increase whatever load I might be able to produce but so far I’m just not the trans girl to offer that money shot experience.

I think that seeing us all as unique people who can offer our own unique experience only makes us that much more interesting and valuable. Also, what I lack in cum I make up for in enthusiasm.

What are some of your favorite video games to stream?

I need a better PC rig, but I really want to get into streaming rocket league, it’s my favorite video game. I get really into it and can be very competitive. Currently though I’ve dabbled in streaming Stardew Valley. I have a “lube” farm in my save file.

There’s this in-game joke where one of the towns folks asks you to get them some truffle oil and it’s pretty clear they’re using it as lube, so I made an entire farm dedicated to producing truffle oil and it’s very lucrative. I hope that no one actually uses truffle oil for lube in real life though. Use lubricants that are safe for internal use, this is my PSA.

Do you have a favorite cosplay?

I’ve gotta say that I haven’t really had the chance to cosplay much, so far I’ve only ever dressed up as Princess Zelda, but I have goals to do Ellen Ripley, Sailor Jupiter, and Milly (Trigun) cosplays. I think if I’m able to pull it off, Ellen Ripley will be my favorite as I have such a deep connection to the character as an early example of ‘transition goals’. But I really did enjoy cosplaying as Princess Zelda and will likely keep the costume on hand for custom content and roleplay sessions.

  • My favorite scent is: Anything citrus.
  • My favorite gift to receive is:A shopping trip, take me out to the mall or a fancy store or we can browse the internet in my hotel room if you’re not ready to be seen with a trans girl in public.
  • The way to win my heart is: A spicy Chinese dish.
  • The nerdiest thing about me is: I own the entire alien franchise of films.
  • The movie I can watch over and over again without getting tired of is: Alien.
  • My ideal date would consist of: An Ideal date for me would be an outdoor music show, followed by a patio dinner somewhere that has some real spicy foods and an appropriate wine for the meal.
