A Tryst With Halifax Escort Aurora Fuego

Welcome back to our sex worker interview series, A Tryst With... We're chatting with Halifax Escort Aurora Fuego about maturity, chemistry, and masturbation!

We’d love to know a little of your backstory—what do you do and how did you get here?

I have always been obsessed with sex and attracted to sex work. I did related things like sex education, selling sex toys, and researching and writing about sex, but I never felt ready to dive into sex work until I quit my full-time management job in 2023 at age forty-three. I wanted to have more time for creative projects and thought, “now is the time to try sex work!” I decided to do in-person, full-service work because I wanted to spend more time touching people and less time on the computer.

My first year of work was split between Halifax (Canada) and Mexico City. It was cool to work in such different places and have a big range of experiences and clients right away. Since then, I’ve been based in Halifax and travel frequently to Mexico, other places in Canada, and internationally.

I would describe myself as a kink-friendly, sensual Girlfriend Experience (GFE) provider who loves longer dates where we have time to explore, connect, and fully enjoy each other. I also love to introduce people to new experiences, teach new skills, and help realize unusual fantasies.

You started sex work in your forties. What are the advantages of being an older provider?

Sometimes I wish I had started doing sex work when I was younger since I like it so much, and youth has advantages in this industry. But age has advantages too! Many people seek out older providers, and I have clients of all ages—from younger people who like older women to people my age and older who want to be with someone with similar life experience and maturity. In an industry where most people are in their twenties, being in my forties helps me stand out because there are usually only a handful of us in any given city.

I’m much more confident and sure of who I am and what I want and need in my forties than I was in my twenties and even thirties. Perhaps having financial stability and a separate established career allows me to approach this work differently. I continue to do freelance work in publishing, and that gives me variety and other things to do when sex work is slow or I start to feel burnt out.

Why did you choose sex work? What does it provide you that other kinds of work doesn’t?

My previous job was with a mission-driven organization, but it wasn’t personally meaningful to me, and I wasn’t learning things I really cared about. It was also remote, so I was in front of a computer and in Zoom meetings all day. In contrast, with sex work I get to connect intimately with people and share touch and pleasure. I get to help people explore and express desires that may have been repressed. I get to model consent, communication, and a shame-free attitude toward sexuality. To me, that is important and meaningful work. And I learn new interesting things about sex and human psychology all the time.

I love that sex work pays well enough that I don’t have to work very much and I have time to do other things. It has brought much abundance, freedom, and excitement into my life.

What were the challenges of starting out in the industry as an independent provider?

I didn’t have any friends in the industry when I started, and Halifax has no escort agencies, so I had to learn everything through research, trial, and error. Because our work is criminalized, information is not readily available and things that should be simple, like finding space to work and processing payments, are not.

Probably the hardest thing was learning how to recognize and deal with fantasy bookers, time wasters, and manipulative and disrespectful behaviour. Unfortunately, I had to experience all the BS myself before developing strong policies and standards. Screening processes, deposits, and booking forms are essential tools! I’m lucky to be at the point now where I have enough good clients and inquiries that I simply ignore all bad inquiries, but our standards can certainly vary depending on how much we need to work.

How do you seek out community in the industry when there are so many barriers to doing so?

Having sex worker friends and community is very important to me—for sharing information, resources, support—and for having duo partners! Halifax is small and doesn’t have a strong community, but I’ve managed to find friends and collaborators by taking an active approach and asking providers out for coffee who seem interesting or like-minded. I do this when I’m travelling too, and have met some wonderful people this way. Fellow providers, if we are ever in the same city and you want to hang out, please reach out!

Participating in Bluesky and consuming sex worker media and art (like books, zines, and podcasts) inspires me. It helps me feel connected to a broader community and to understand this weird and wonderful world and how I fit into it.

What’s your niche? How did you find it?

I find a lot of escort marketing to be fairly generic—from the more raw and explicit to the “luxury” end of the spectrum. I try to stand out by expressing more of my personality (like my love of books) and my earthy, embodied, playful sexuality. I think it works because new clients often say they contacted me because I seemed like a real person they could connect with.

The other part was learning how I want to work, because there are many ways. I used to measure my success by how many inquiries and bookings I was getting. Eventually I realized what I value most is the quality of my dates and the quality of life I have as a result of doing this work, and that I don’t actually want to work a lot. So now I like to have fewer, longer dates with people who are looking for a special experience. I measure my success by how much pleasure, creativity, learning, connection, and adventure I’m experiencing in my work or as a result of my work. I realize this style of work is a privilege!

Is there a type of client who seeks you out that you really enjoy seeing?

People often seek me out when they are starting a journey of sexual exploration, or want to try or learn something new. I offer a space free of roles, scripts, and expectations where we can do whatever gives us pleasure without conforming to conventional ideas of what sex is or how we should be having it. This invites a lot of delicious sensual play. I also offer erotic lessons on topics like oral and the G-spot, so I think that, combined with my age, attracts people who want to learn new skills or try new things, like roleplay or pegging.

What are your favourite creative aspects of the work?

I take all my own photos because I like playing with colour, stories, settings, and clothing and props, and having control over how I represent myself. I do not have technical knowledge of photography so perhaps this is a mistake that I will one day regret after I finally get a professional photo shoot done, but I have so much fun with it, so it’s hard to give up. I do get positive feedback on my pictures all the time, and I always turn myself on during my shoots!

What has sex work taught you about yourself?

That I can be attracted to many different kinds of people. My clients are not necessarily folks I would notice on the street or match with on a dating app. But when we get together and start chatting, flirting, and touching, I almost always get turned on and we have a hot time. Good chemistry is unpredictable and based more on a vibe or a presence than anything tangible.

What’s one of your everyday pleasures?

I have many everyday pleasures, like going for walks, reading, and cooking and eating delicious food, but my favourite is masturbating. I always masturbate before I go to sleep at night and usually one or two other times during the day. Masturbation for me is a way to connect with myself and my body, quiet my mind, and give myself love and pleasure. If I’m not giving myself at least two or three orgasms every day, I know there’s something wrong and I need to reassess my life.

In the future, I plan to: Write a book.

My ultimate weakness is: Mustaches.

The secret to getting to know me is: Asking thoughtful questions—I can be shy to talk about myself otherwise.

My favorite scent is: Gardenia.

My last meal would be: Coconut Shrimp.
