Welcome to 'A Tryst With', our escort interview series. Today we're joined by Cincinnati Escort and Tryst Blog writer Em Rose! Join us as we discuss community, praxis, fetish, and figging...
Can you tell us your 'origin story' as a sex worker?
The answer to this is a bit nebulous, I think. I initially began sex work over a decade ago. At the time, I had just moved into an apartment with my then-boyfriend and a few of his friends. Everyone I lived with either did sex work or was in a long term relationship with a sex worker. It was a supportive environment and I tried sugaring, which I did on and off for years. When I got more firmly into sex work – when I made my Tryst profile and started my OnlyFans – the catalyst was actually the absolutely ludicrous cost of my health insurance premium when I started a new vanilla job.

What did you find was a big learning curve for you?
Setting boundaries and learning how to say no. I'm a former people pleaser, and setting boundaries, especially with people who want to push them, is a skill I had to work to develop. As a newer sex worker who was still young, I was more naïve and didn't want to lose potential bookings. I was more forgiving and willing to sacrifice my comfort. These days, I refuse to entertain someone who pushes a boundary in even the smallest way. For example my ad says texts or email only, so if someone calls me, I'm ignoring them. My time and my comfort are more valuable to me, not to mention my safety.
Was there anything you took to like a duck to water?
Filming content with Narratophile. Our chemistry is absolutely off the charts and I love every single scene we've done together. I love how genuine and creative our content is.
Also dick rating, with the qualification that I do best at the honest ones. I love dicks and I'm not great at humiliation, but I really enjoy going into detail.

What’s an aspect of being a sex worker that you really love?
I absolutely love the community solidarity. There are a lot of really radical leftist sex workers who I am flattered to call friends. I find the mutual aid that exists among sex workers to be one of the best forms of praxis I’ve ever encountered.
You’re very fetish friendly. Can you tell us a little about your kink work?
It's really difficult to describe yourself as fetish friendly without someone immediately trying to engage in kink without prior consent. I love ritualized power exchange and praise/degradation, but clients will try to act out fantasies like that before discussing it. For example, texting me and calling me names without a discussion. That's how you get blocked.
That aside, I love filming kink-related content and taking custom requests. I also love when clients feel comfortable exploring kinks with me. I tend towards submissiveness, which is very difficult to explore with clients in a safe way, but it's possible with established regulars who are willing to build that trust. I also find that having experienced submission and masochism helps give me a perspective to allow others to experience it too.
I also genuinely enjoy anal play and I like being able to introduce someone to it.

Do you have any fetishes yourself?
I've touched on a lot of them, and I'm into many aspects of BDSM; including shibari, impact play, and D/s dynamics. Any type of sensation play is really fun.
You’re a content creator. How have sites like OnlyFans changed the way you work?
I will always prefer to sell content directly to people on Reddit or people who text me from listings, but sites like OnlyFans allow me to keep a catalog of content that people can explore on their own. It means I can make income without as much of a time investment on my end.
What’s the proudest moment of your career?
The moment I'm about to describe is incredibly niche and kinky; I had someone order a custom who wanted me to try figging on myself. I was a newer sex worker and I definitely undercharged them. For those who haven’t heard of it, figging is when you insert peeled ginger into one of your orifices.
Going into figging, I was really excited to try it and definitely over-confident. In my mind, I had just had a really intense caning session, so I could obviously handle it. My Dom at that time agreed to be on a video call with me while I was filming it and offered me rewards for every minute I could handle. My goal was twenty minutes, which I thought would be easy.
I was dead wrong. The sensation was not something I was prepared for at all. It was really intense. I tried to use my wand to distract myself, but that only increased blood flow and made the sensation worse. I only made it ten minutes, but I’m really proud of that. Figging is still one of my favorite things. When I’m working with other submissives, I like to ask them to compete, to see if they can stand it for longer than I can.

We love your tattoos! Do you have a favourite?
I can’t actually choose. It’s a tie between three. The first is my shoulder piece by Noel’le Longhaul, which I mention in my article on sex work and how I perceive my body. I absolutely love my goat skull tattoo; it’s surrounded by goldenrod, skullcap, and amanita muscaria. Finally, even though it’s very simple, I have a 1312 stick n poke finger tattoo. I love blackwork, plants, and ornamental tattoos.
Is there a book, blog, tv show, or movie that has had a major impact on your life?
This was maybe the most difficult question. I had to narrow it down to “Are Prisons Obsolete?” by Angela Davis. It’s an incredibly succinct, articulate, and well-written exploration of the harm caused by carceral systems. It’s also a very easy read. Being a PIC (Prison Industrial Complex) abolitionist shapes how I engage with the world.

Is there a social cause you deeply care about?
Just one? I want to say a million things. The collective liberation of the working class. We're not free until we're all free. Broadly speaking, abolishing the entire prison industrial complex is the cause that drives most of my behavior, from my interpersonal relationships to the larger forms of activism and organizing I engage in. To be more specific, I participate in SWOP Behind Bars to support incarcerated sex workers. I'm also passionate about supporting workers through strikes and unionization efforts. I'm an advocate of Medicare for All and abortion access.
If you want to win my heart you must: Intentionally and concretely engage in mutual aid.
What would be the title of your memoir? Rope & Roses: The Adventures of an Anti-fascist Slut.
My favorite lingerie brand/designer is: I'm fond of Victoria's Secret but they're produced via prison labor so no one should feel bad about stealing from them.
My social handles are: @rope_roses on twitter.
