A Tryst With Seattle Escort Chiara Novio
Thank you for stopping by our sex worker interview series 'A Tryst With'! In this instalment, we're chatting with Seattle Escort Chiara Novo about connection, Charadrius nivosus, and courage.
Hi Chiara, we’re so happy to meet you. Can you tell us a little about how you came to the industry?
I initially came to the industry via online work, several years back. Once I started moving into more personal relationships and in-person work, I realized that was a much better fit for me. I took a handful of years away from this work before returning as Chiara. Who, fun fact, came to be from morphing my favorite bird’s latin name Charadrius nivosus into my sensual alter ego. This time around I feel much more solid in myself.
“Connection” is a focus for you in your work. Can you tell us how you forge connections with your clients?
The thing about connection is that it’s personal, so there’s no broad connective force I can spread to everyone. When I say connection is my medium, what I mean is I have a willingness to be truly present with people and it shows. It's the baseline of how I move through the world, and it allows people to open up. A friend recently described me as their “priest.” I’m not saying I am offering confession with my work, but if you want to get down on your knees and be well received—well maybe I am.
How do you work to create an atmosphere of intimacy with your clients? Is this a skill that you’ve nurtured?
All skills whether they feel new or natural, do best with nurture. In this industry people refer to the “art of intimacy” a lot and there is something to that. Being embodied in my own sensuality helps me tap into intimate moments deeply, and that gives space for others to explore themselves. More simply, I take a genuine interest in whoever I’m with and keep our interaction flowing comfortably. And I smile, which for the life of me I can’t figure out how to do on camera, but in real life I am quite flirty and giggly which can help make “breaking the physical ice” feel easy.
What are some other skills you’ve developed through your time as a sex worker? How do you relate these to the wider world?
Sex work has certainly shown me how capable I am at navigating a vast variety of social situations, to which I think there are endless applications. It's helped me feel confident in voicing boundaries, being solid in myself without being swayed by outside perception. As well as parsing out intuition from anxiety and trusting it.
When a client seeks you out, is there something they are often looking for? How do you help to create an experience that fulfils those desires?
I don’t think there’s a universal reason, I see a diversity of people with different desires. Though I do think the alternative, kinky Girlfriend Experience (GFE) is a common draw. I love fantasy fulfilment! It takes a lot of courage to vocalize these things, so when someone has a vision that I can create with them, I find it thrilling.
What advice do you have for those reaching out to you for the first time? What can they do to win your favour, or make a great impression?
I try to make logistics smoother by clearly laying out what I need for booking and when someone has taken the time to read that and sends a thoughtful inquiry, I am grateful. It shows me respect right off the bat and I can save my energy for meeting instead of back-and-forthing! Of course sending a gift is an incredible turn on, and is appreciated but never expected.
In your profile you say, “with me, you’ll feel seen, desired, accepted, and free to let your guard down.” Why is this atmosphere and your care for your clients so important to you?
We really are in a time of collective loneliness: there’s so much stacked up that pushes us into isolation in this world. I’m frequently told by people how awkward they are, or that they’re bad at socializing or meeting people. I’ve never known that to be an inherent truth. I feel most myself when I’m being warm and friendly, so I want to create a space where the pressure dies down and the tension can build up naturally. I hope people leave feeling just a little more open to the world.
We all know that sometimes it’s hard to recognise our own desires. How do you assist clients to access and communicate their desires to you?
Communicating my own desires and interests tends to open the floor for clients to share their own. I am earnestly curious, pretty shameless, and patient. Not everything can reveal itself right away and that’s fine, that’s why I emphasize the importance of longer-term connections. Playfulness is also key, this type of communication can feel daunting, having fun with it can really open the floodgates.
What are some of your favourite kinds of sessions? Is there anything you’d love to do with a client on a date?
I really treasure when someone shares a passion or hobby with me. Whether that’s martial arts, food, a favorite film, or a museum. I definitely love to learn in a “jack of all trades” sort of way, so when someone shares their skills it really gets me going. I currently have a dream of a motorcycle school date followed by a “joyride.” I do love just languishing in a hotel with a good view and some room service too.
What keeps you busy when you’re not working?
I’m really delving into herbalism right now: I am in school studying gardening, wildcrafting and making herbal medicines. I definitely feel the siren’s call of the water, and during summer all I want is to skinnydip in a river. Good food is such a joy in this life—I love to cook and craft my own recipes as well. I’m constantly getting myself into new projects of all varieties, though a lot of my energy goes into harm reduction and medical outreach.
Is there a book, film, song, artwork, or other piece of media that has had a major impact on your life?
I mean so many, but “People Talking” by Lucinda Williams jumps to mind. I had the pleasure of seeing her live this past year and it was really touching. You do have to just keep on walking sometimes.
The most exciting thing I have ever done is: not suitable for the internet
A historical figure I find inspiring is: Emma Goldman
For me, the best part of sex is: seeing someone succumb to pleasure
