A Tryst With Philadelphia Escort Eva Rivera

Hello my sweetpeas! Welcome back to A Tryst With, our worker interview series, we love to have you. So come on down and meet the gorgeous, the engaging, Philadelphia escort, Eva Rivera!

Tell us your story, how did you get into the industry and what has your journey looked like thus far?

I was always drawn towards sex work and knew that one day I was going to be an escort. I’ve always been sexually open and thought sw would be the perfect outlet for me to explore. I entered the industry about 10 years ago. I was very young, naive, and had zero community in the sw world. I didn’t know such a vast community even existed!
I navigated everything from craigslist car dates, to weekend getaways with a sugar daddy, to working at strip clubs up and down the east coast. Back then I didn’t know any fsswers and never told anyone what I did, in those times sw wasn’t as destigmatized as it is now (even though we have a long way to go still). Looking back I wish I had the community I have now then to help me avoid bad dates, scammers, and LE.

How has the industry changed since you started?

Since I started I’ve seen more and more online work, the normalization of being a swer and being a client. I’ve seen lots of people entering this industry at a higher rate than people leaving it. I’ve noticed that more swers are “out” about their jobs and openly talk about the lifestyle. On the downside I’ve seen of a lot of what I like to call “pyramid scheme workers” who pose as highly successful OF models or high end escorts and offer their mentorship when in reality yes they make a lot of money, but it’s money they make off of other sex workers, not their clients of fan base. To me, you’re not a sex worker if a majority of your income is scamming us.

What is like being face out as a worker?

I never gave it much thought since I have a lot of tattoos that are identifying so I never thought I could be face in. Since I’m fortunate enough to be very out about my work I never worried about the cons of being face out. I think my face is a main reason some people hire me so I never wanted to hide it.

How have you experienced Whorephobia?

Ouff yes, unfortunately too many times to count. In my personal life I’ve heard a lot of “I know what you do.. Stay away from my man”, “I could never do what you do unless i charged like 100,000 per hour lol”, “I'd rather do (insert sw that isn’t fssw) than let men touch me”

I’ve even had civ who was a self proclaimed “feminist/leftist” out me to extended family by sending them screenshots of my website and calling me a “whore” Unfortunately destigmatisation needs to come a long way before whorephobia can be a thing of the past.

Why do you think it is important for sex work to be decriminalised, not just legalised and how would it change the way you are able to work?

I think decriminalizing sex work will make this line of work safer. We would be able to report assault, robbery, even sue in civil court for clients who have shorted us, scammed us, or refused payment for services. Simply put, we would have workers rights like we should.

What’s one myth about Sex Work or Sex Workers you’d like to bust?

  • That all our clients are awful men that no one would touch with a 10ft pole. My client pool is amazing, usually people I’m close in age with (mid to late 20s-30s), not all of them are men, and some of the most respectful people I’ve met. Branding is key to attracting the type of clientele you wish to see!
  • SW is not a get rich quick scheme. I’ve had civ friends ask me to show them how to get into the industry and when they see everything that I have to do and the years it took to get to the level I’m at they always quit. It’s more work than just posting ads and showing up and looking pretty. You’re running a business and the goal is safety and returning clients.

What’s an aspect of being a sex worker you really love?

The financial freedom and independence it’s given me to pursue my art/music career and to travel the world. The fellow workers and clients I have met are absolutely amazing. Some of the bonds I built will have an impact on me for a lifetime. I wouldn’t be who I am today without the community sw has given me.

Were there any folks in the industry you found helpful or interesting to follow on social media when you first started? Or still?

When I first started I didn’t have (or know about) Sw- twitter or even have a work instagram so instead I’m going to shout out some lovely sex workers who have helped me in the beginning and some long time friends, and people I think worth following
6 years ago my initial mentor Devorah Reine of San Fransico helped me leave a very unsafe brothel by teaching me to screen clients and work independently. This person will always have my gratitude.
My best friend Ramona Serafina of Asheville who has been doing the work of a saint by helping those in need to the best of their ability. Whether it’s screening, a safety call, work advice, or someone to vent to, they’ve always had my back.
Sofia Vivana of Seattle is a long time best friend who I started working in strip clubs with and exploring SD sites together. We both started working independently around the same time and helped each other along the way. For years we toured together sharing hotel rooms, offering duos, and helping each other screen. I’ve never seen anyone work as hard as her.
